TRENDING: Peplum

If you're in the dark about what a peplum is, the definition I got from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/ is that it's 'a short overskirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, or dress.' Some people call it a lamp shade or a skirt verandah. No matter what you decide to name it, the prediction is that it's going to be one of the major trends for the upcoming summer (thank god... because I'm so over the winter chills).

Peplums were seen everywhere in the Spring Summer 2012/2013 collections shown at Australian Fashion Week. They were featured heavily on skirts, dresses, jackets and the occasional swimwear. By Johnny created a sugary sweet collection with sorbet tones and stripes where the peplum was attached to a top or a dress. Alice McCall's peplums combined pastel tones and floral embroidery which resembled that of a babushka doll. Lisa Ho designed a saturated yellow gown with a satin bodice and peplum which contrasted the silk chiffon skirt. Zimmermann put a clever and unique twist on the peplum as it was incorporated into structured swimwear.
